sony playstation vrAs far as dedicated virtual reality headsets are concerned, there are three main players in the market right now. We have HTC and the HTC Vive, Oculus and the Oculus Rift, and Sony with their PlayStation VR. Now if you’re a bit spoilt for choice and you want to go for the “best”, it seems that Sony has recently conceded that the Oculus Rift could be more powerful than the PlayStation VR.

Speaking to Polygon in an interview, Sony’s PlayStation executive president Masayasu Ito said, “If you just talk about the high-end quality, yes, I would admit that Oculus may have better VR.” However Ito also pointed out that the Oculus Rift will need a powerful machine to be used alongside it, which in turn could add to its cost. ”However, it requires a very expensive and very fast PC.”

As it stands, Oculus and Valve have plans to offer PC bundles in which their virtual reality headsets will be sold alongside PCs that have been optimized for their use. In the case of Oculus, we have seen PC bundles which cost $1,500, so yes indeed getting a computer that has been optimized and compatible with Oculus Rift could prove expensive.

Unfortunately for the PlayStation VR, we’re not sure what we can expect in terms of price. However given the hardware differences, hopefully the PlayStation VR will be priced cheaper. Sony has plans for a PlayStation VR event that will be held on the 15th of March, so perhaps details like pricing will be revealed then.
