The umbrella is an accessory that not many of us think too much about. As long as it does the job of protecting us from the rain (and sometimes the sun), there’s really not much to complain about. However in the past we’ve seen how some inventors have tried to make the umbrella more useful, like ensuring you never leave it behind, but what if an umbrella could tell you when you needed it?

That’s pretty much what the Oombrella has been designed for. The Oombrella is an umbrella that comes with a capsule filled with sensors built into it. These sensors are capable of picking up information like humidity, temperature, pressure, and even light, so when it detects that it might rain later, it will notify you through its companion app that you should probably bring it with you.

The alert will go out 15 minutes before when the umbrella thinks it will rain, giving you plenty of time to prepare yourself. There is also a built-in buzzer and light to let you know when you have received a notification on your phone, so if you’re wearing thick layers of clothing or if your phone is in a bag, you’ll still be able to know when someone’s trying to reach you.

Last but not least, it also comes with the ability to remind users if they have left it behind. Given that the Oombrella isn’t cheap compared to a regular umbrella, we reckon that you’ll probably appreciate this feature the most. The Oombrella is currently a Kickstarter project seeking funding, so hit up its page for the details if you’d like to help fund it.
