Qualcomm has introduced a new virtual reality SDK or software development kit which aims to improve the virtual reality experience on mobile devices. The company believes that the next generation of mobile VR apps is complex and that challenging performance requirements and extreme power consumption restraints have to be met for VR apps to become truly immersive. Its new SDK will enable developers to harness the power of its next-gen processors and provide them with tools which enable them to optimize the experience with special focus on power efficiency.

Next-gen chips like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 are fully capable of supporting immersive virtual reality experiences, you’ll find this processor powering flagship Android devices this year, in some markets Samsung is releasing Snapdragon 820-powered variants of the Galaxy S7.

The Snapdragon VR SDK will provide developers with tools that let them create more responsive and immersive experiences. New technologies that are crucial for an optimal VR experience include fast motion to photon, DSP sensor fusion, VR layering, stereoscopic rendering with lens corrections as well as improved power management.

Qualcomm expects to have this SDK out to developers by the second quarter of 2016. Developers will then start creating new immersive experiences which should arrive in the months to follow.
