AT&T logoWell, well, what do we have here? Whispers are going around on the grapevine that mobile carrier AT&T is working alongside Cyanogen and ZTE in order to deliver a brand new smartphone that will hit the US market. In other words, this particular smartphone will be powered by Cyanogen’s forked version of Android, which would enable the carrier bring with it its services such as DirectTV in a far more direct manner.

A couple of sources that The Information combed came up with the above, where one of the sources cited having direct knowledge of the matter, while the other claims to have been briefed on the discussions that were held between all three parties concerning the matter. Of course, it goes without saying that this is just but a rumor and should be taken with a pinch of salt, at least until something concrete and official is announced from one, two, or all three parties.

It also remains to be seen just what kind of handset would ZTE push out should this particular rumored partnership come to fruition. Will they take the lazy way out and release a rebadged model, or build one from scratch specifically for such a purpose? Time to sit back and bust the popcorn open!
