Virtual reality is going to change the way how we consume content in the future and now it’s also changing the way we ride on roller coasters. Six Flags and Samsung have announced a new partnership today to launch virtual reality roller coasters in the country. The Gear VR is going to be used to provide these VR experiences in nine Six Flags parks across North America.

One could argue that strapping a VR headset to your face while riding a roller coaster goes against the very idea of riding a roller coaster. It should excite you, scare you and thrill you as the coaster takes steep turns and accelerates sharply. You should be able to experience all of that with your eyes open, but hey, different strokes for different folks.

Select roller coasters at these Six Flags locations will be equipped to allow riders to wear the Gear VR headset. A video will be synced with all of the inverted loops, steep drops and turns to provide an immersive virtual reality experience to riders.

The first location with this VR experience is going to go live later this month. More will be added by the summer. The experience will be supported on six New Revolution VR coasters that transport riders to a futuristic battle to save the earth and three Superman VR coasters that bring riders to the comic book world of Metropolis where they experience Superman taking on Lex Luthor and his army of Lex Bots.
