There’s good news today for fans of the Sniper Elite game series. Rebellion has confirmed today that Sniper Elite 4 is in the pipeline and that the new game is going to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this year. It has also released a short teaser trailer that offers a brief glimpse of Sniper Elite 4 to fans who have had their fingers crossed for a sequel.

Sniper Elite 4 is primarily set in Italy, in the aftermath of its predecessor, and it continues with the series’ World War Two heritage by taking players to “Mediterranean coastal towns, to colossal Nazi mega structures, daunting forests and giddying mountain monasteries inspired by Monte Cassino”

Elite marksman and secret agent Karl Fairburne is tasked with fighting alongside the brave men and women of the Italian Resistance to free their country from the cusp of fascism and to take on a new threat that has the potential to stop the Allied resistance in Europe before it’s even begun.

If Fairburne’s mission fails, “there will be no Operation Overlord, no D-Day landings, and no Victory in Europe,” sounds intriguing, to say the least.

Rebellion hasn’t provided a confirmed release date yet for Sniper Elite 4 but says that it will arrive later this year and that it’s going to run at full 1080p HD on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game will have a campaign more for one or two players as well as multiplayer and co-op modes.
