uberUber is a company that has definitely branched out to be a whole lot more than just being a competitor to regular taxis, as it has expanded its food delivery service to more than a dozen cities, not to mention allowing a single person to pay for up to 10 riders in the ‘Family Profiles’ addition. This time around, it looks like Uber is more than ready to take riders from San Diego all the way to Mexico.

Do bear in mind that this is a one way destination, allowing passengers to go through the busiest U.S. border, so if you would like to return, well, you would have to find an alternative mode of transport other than Uber itself. This service will be known as Passport, being its very first cross-border service that will see one-way transportation offered from San Diego, going past the San Ysidro border to just about anywhere that you like in the northern Baja California region.

It is an alternative to the likes of buses, commercial taxis, or for others who would prefer to take a stroll across the border. Christopher Ballard, general manager for Uber in Southern California, shared, “It’s very exciting for us because there are a lot of places where we could have launched a cross-border product, but we recognize the importance of the largest border crossing in the world and the unique relationship between San Diego and Tijuana. These are cities whose families, cultures and economies are closely linked.”

Do bear in mind that such cross-border trips will be available via Uber’s black car option only, which is more expensive than UberX rides, and will include a $20 convenience fee on top of per-mile and per-minute rates.
