uber-car-serviceThe next time you step into your UberX ride, you might be in for a pleasant surprise – that the very vehicle in which you travel in would come with free Wi-Fi connectivity, now how about that? Of course, this is a deal that will be available only in Sydney or Melbourne in Australia this week, and this is made possible thanks to the exploration of a partnership with Australian telecommunications company Optus and Uber.

This will give the opportunity for Optus to test out its 4G Wi-Fi connections throughout a hundred of UberX vehicles that are plying their routes in both Australian cities. In the online statement, it was mentioned that Optus’ Wi-Fi will be able to open the door for a maximum of 10 devices to be hooked up within the vehicle at any one time, which should be more than enough for even four passengers who have two devices each, and bandwidth should not be an issue here.

Right now, the trial is being carried out, and once the UberX driver has set up an Optus 4G Car WiFi Kit, passengers in there will be able to hook up to the Wi-Fi network by keying in the correct name and password, assuming the driver does not leave it to be an open network. What will UberX drivers get in return? Optus will offer Uber drivers exclusive smartphone deals, and this will comprise of both SIM-only and handset-included plans. [Press Release]
