Several days ago we reported that after about five years, Blizzard decided to revisit the Diablo 2 title by issuing an update that made it compatible with newer operating systems. The good news is that Diablo 2 won’t be the only older Blizzard game to get an update, because the company has announced plans to issue a patch to Warcraft 3 later this week.

This was revealed in a video (see above) in which Blizzard’s head of classic games Robert Bridenbecker announced the upcoming patch. The patch will bump the game version up to 1.27 and it is expected to drop on the 15th of March for players all around the world. Bridenbecker doesn’t reveal what the patch will contain, but presumably it will also address newer operating system compatibility.

He also teases that this is the company’s first stop on their journey, which we have to wonder what that means. Could it be that based on his words that we could look forward to a StarCraft patch in the coming weeks as well? Also with Blizzard patching older games, does it mean that we can look forward to sequels, especially if Blizzard is revisiting older titles presumably in hopes that the new patches will renew interest amongst gamers?

Either way if you’re looking for a reason to dust off your copy of Warcraft 3, then the 15th of March is a date you’ll want to mark down on your calendars.
