Amazon today announced the launch of its Amazon Payments Global Partner Program in a bid to effectively compete against the likes of PayPal and other similar companies. The new program will bring the Amazon Payments platform to more third-party websites. E-commerce platform providers and developers will be able to integrate Amazon Payments into their services thus enabling merchants to allow their customers to “Pay with Amazon” when checking out.

Individual merchants already have access to Amazon Payments, they can integrate the Pay with Amazon tool like they can integrate Login with Amazon. This eliminates the need for customers to provide their card details to different payment processors at different merchants. They simply pay with the card that they have on file with Amazon.

Amazon is looking to provide the service directly to e-commerce platform providers and developers with this new initiative so that their products come with Amazon Payments integrated right from the word go. Merchants and sellers will then be able to choose easily whether they want to have Amazon Payments enabled on their online store or not.

The company is currently running the program on an invite-only basis in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan. It will surely expand it to more countries down the line as it looks to take on the likes of Visa, PayPal, Apple Pay and many others.
