doom_2Due to console hardware being fixed, developers usually have to work with what’s available meaning that in some cases, they will have to lock the framerate and/or resolution to ensure that the game runs smoothly. After all what’s the use of having high-res textures if your game’s framerate is going to end up suffering as a result of that, right?

However for PC since configurations are pretty much endless, developers don’t need to lock in a framerate. In fact for PC gamers if you are thinking about getting your hands on the upcoming DOOM game, you will be pleased to learn that an id Software employee by the name of Tiago Sousa has confirmed on Twitter that the game will not framerate limitations.

According to Sousa, “Happy that we announced FPS unlock officially – code team been working hard on eradicating that for #PCMASTERRACE<3” As pointed out by Game Rant, this is significant because it means that future games using the same engine will not have framerate limitations as well.

Now it remains to be seen how well this will work. In a way certain games allow gamers to turn off framerate locks by disabling v-sync, but sometimes if your monitor does not refresh fast enough it could result in screen tearing, but hopefully in DOOM’s case we won’t encountering any of those problems. In the meantime gamers who are interested in getting their hands on the game might be pleased to learn that the game’s open beta has been extended until the end of Monday, so you still have time to test drive the game before buying it.
