dubai-droneDubai, the place that is located in an arid desert and was once considered to be a backwater part of the world, has certainly made good use of its oil money in order to turn it into a thriving city that has beautifully designed buildings, the finest hotels, exotic tourist attractions, and of course, playing host to the first Drone Prix in the world with huge sums of money up for grabs that will only grow from now on. Hence, it is no surprise at all to hear that the Dubai municipality will employ the assistance of drones to catch people in the act of littering.

With this city being a center for wealth and excess, not to mention a place where even relatively minor illegal acts could result in some major consequences, you might want to maintain the cleanliness of the city with an even more guarded fervor from now on. The Dubai Municipality’s Waste Management Department would like to deploy a whole fleet of drones in order to catch anyone who litters.

Right now, litterbugs can breathe easier as only one drone is in operation, although two more “buddies” will join the fleet in 2016. These drones will monitor waste dump sites, beaches as well as desert camp sites to see if anyone violates the city’s sanitation law. Abdul Majeed Al Saifaie, director of the Waste Management Department, shared, “The main beneficial factor is the amount of time these drones can save. Instead of having municipality inspectors driving across the city, the drones will be able to fly directly to a number of different locations within a short time, and provide us with data and high-resolution photographs.”
