google logoWe do happen to know that Google is one company that has very, very deep pockets, thanks to its market capitalization as well as profit-making ventures from various parts of the world. Having said that, a fine of a few million dollars would be a slap on its wrist in the event of an infraction, but when we are talking about billions, then the suits in the company would definitely sit up and take notice. Here we are with word that the EU Commission could actually fine Google up to $7.45 billion because the company has pre-loaded its apps on Android smartphones.

Over at a conference hosted by the Dutch competition authority, commissioner Margrethe Vestager did mention that they are “looking closely” at Google’s deals with Android smartphone makers and telecoms, and should a link be able to be established that showcases the tech giant’s insistence on pre-loading Chrome, Gmail, Drive, Hangouts and its slew of Google apps on said mobile devices, it might be deemed to be an act that prevents competing apps from being chosen by customers.

Do you think that the EU Commission will be able to find any smoking gun, or is this just a witch hunt that has gone overboard?
