Many The Division players were in for a surprise when they applied the game’s update 1.1. The launch didn’t go as smoothly as Ubisoft would have hoped as the update ended up wiping out characters of many players. Naturally, the players were very angry that the characters they had spent a lot of time building were just wiped after the update was applied. Ubisoft has now confirmed the cause of this issue, it was a malfunctioning server which caused this.

Ubisoft confirmed on its technical forums that the characters were missing from players after the update because the malfunctioning server was unable to sync character data correctly. It also confirmed that the fix has been developed and will be applied at the source to ensure that all characters can be fully restored.

Players who experienced this issue can look forward to the fix being applied very soon, to deploy the fix the servers will be brought offline, and before that’s done a notice will be sent out to players so that they know when the servers are going to be offline.

To restore characters, Ubisoft will need to restore the latest uncorrupted save of players’ entire account, which happened during the server maintenance on April 12th. What this means is that players will find their characters will be back just as they left them on April 12th at 12am PDT.
