Robots have certainly come a long way in their technological prowess, and they have also been “employed” to perform a variety of tasks as we have seen so far – including that of serving hotel guests or even customers at a restaurant. Having said that, here is a robotic snake that you can check out in the video above that does seem to swim like it is the real deal, bringing us another step closer to the uncanny valley.

Eelume, Kongsberg Maritime and Statoil are working on a robotic snake worker which will be able to inspect and hopefully, fingers crossed, be developed to such an extent that it is capable of fixing underwater gear. Of course, robot snakes are not new at all, but this is a production-ready robot snake that moves in such a serpentine manner, if they could work out the exterior for factor to resemble the real deal, then it would certainly freak many people out all the more.

It is not in service as at press time, but the long term plan would be to install these robots on a permanent basis on the seabed, which should see them work round the clock when it comes to maintenance tasks and the ilk.
