Samsung-Pay-SingaporeWhile mobile payment services like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay are available in many western countries, over in southeast asia, not so much. However the good news is that if you are living in Singapore, you will be pleased to learn that Samsung will be rolling out support for Samsung Pay in Q2 2016.

Given that we are already in Q2, we guess this means that in the next few months users of Samsung devices should be able to start using the service. According to Samsung exec Injong Rhee, “We are extremely excited that Singapore is the first market in Southeast Asia to roll out Samsung Pay. Singapore’s connectivity and openness are ideal conditions for our new mobile service to thrive, together with the interest and readiness of consumers here in adopting this new method of payment.”

Samsung will be partnering with several credit card providers such as American Express, MasterCard, and Visa, and will also be supporting local major banks like DBS/POSB, OCBC Bank, and Standard Chartered. This already gives Samsung the edge over Apple who recently announced their expansion into Singapore

However the downside to Apply Pay in Singapore is that for now, only American Express will be supported, so until Apple partners with MasterCard or Visa, Samsung Pay certainly sounds a lot more compelling.
