ghost in a shellThere are many popular mangas and animes around, although if we were to talk about classics or at least those that helped to define future works, Ghost in the Shell would be one of them. Now you might have heard that there a Ghost in the Shell VR movie in the works, but we’re sure that fans have also heard that there is a live-action movie in the works as well.

In fact thanks to a recent posting by Paramount Pictures, it seems that we have managed to catch a glimpse at the Ghost in the Shell’s lead actress who will be played by none other than Scarlett Johansson. So far it looks pretty good, but there are some who have taken issue with Johansson’s portrayal of the character.

Given that in the manga/anime the character is Asian, some are a little offended with Hollywood whitewashing a role that would have preferably been played by an Asian actress. Ming-Na Wen, who plays Agent May on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took to Twitter to voice her displeasure at the casting.

That being said, this is probably a debate for another day and while some might considering Johansson’s casting to be whitewashing, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the movie will be a bad one. The live-action Ghost in the Shell movie has been pegged for a release on the 31st of March, 2017.
