Smart mattresses might not sound as though there is a viable market, but stranger things have happened in real life. Spanish company Durmet did not manage to market their internet-connected mattress for babies successfully, and decided to look into the product from a different angle. This time around, the WiFi-enabled “Smarttress” will arrive in a size for adults.

The main feature that Durmet is promoting? It has called it the “Lover Detection System”, where it claims to buzz your phone every time any kind of suspicious activity is detected. How does it go about doing so, you ask? Well, there will be two dozen ultrasonic sensors that are embedded in the springs, allowing the mattress to detect action across multiple contact zones, while notifying you via an alert should your bed be used “in a questionable way.”

It will also deliver specific bedtime analytics such as a “Speedometer” and “Intensity and impact per minute” metrics, and the asking price of $1,750 for this spring-based mattress might seem rather prohibitive compared to having installed a spy camera which would be far more affordable and flexible. After all, trysts don’t only happen in bedrooms, do they?
