sony pvmx550If you’re going to be shooting video footage in 4K, or if you capture images at high-resolutions, you obviously will need a display with an equally high-resolution if you plan on editing it. After all if your monitor can’t properly handle the high-resolution, then checking the details of your photo or video will be pretty hard.

The good news is that Sony has you covered. At NAB 2016, Sony took the wraps off the PVM-X550. This is a 55-inch OLD monitor with a 4K resolution. Granted you could probably use this monitor for all kinds of things like watching videos or surfing the web, but Sony suggests that this could come in handy for those in the production field who might need to evaluate videos.

According to Gary Mandle, Senior Product Manager, Sony Electronics, “As demand grows for 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, production teams and their clients need more tools for evaluating video. This new monitor delivers quad-viewing flexibility in a size that meets the need for larger, more detailed monitors in post-production suites. And, it’s a perfect complement to our BVM-X300 30-inch 4K OLED critical evaluation reference monitor.”

The monitor will come with a 12-bit output signal and will also allow for customized individual display settings, such as Electro-Optical Transfer Function, Color Space, Transfer Matrix, and color temperature. No word on pricing but Sony expects the display to be made available this coming summer.
