microsoft logoEver since Microsoft made their own Surface tablets, many have wondered if the Redmond company would take the opportunity to create their own brand of Surface smartphones. This has been rumored about for a while now and unfortunately it looks like Surface Phone hopefuls will have to wait for at least another year.

This is according to a report from Windows Central who claims to have heard that the Surface Phone will probably be releasing their Surface Phone by April 2017. Note that it says by April, not in April, meaning that there is a chance we could see it launch earlier than that. However we suppose it’s best not to get your hopes up for now.

The reason behind the “delay” is because apparently Microsoft is waiting to complete Windows 10 Redstone 2. This is essentially a major update to the Windows 10 platform that is expected to bring a host of new features to the PC and mobile, so we guess Microsoft wants to launch the Surface Phone with all the bells and whistles right out of the gate.

We suppose a 2017 release kind of makes sense. We have heard several times that the Surface Phone could pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chipset, and given that the Snapdragon 820 is Qualcomm’s flagship chipset for 2016, the Snapdragon 830 for 2017 makes perfect sense. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if a Surface Phone is what you’re after, maybe you shouldn’t hold your breath.
