overwatch-officialWhen it comes to RTS, RPGs, or MMORPGs, Blizzard has plenty of experience in those areas, but with FPS, we reckon that’s brand new territory for the company. Overwatch will be Blizzard’s first FPS and also represents the company launching a brand new IP for the first time in a long time, meaning that they had to get it right.

According to the folks at Games Radar, they could not have done it without some help from the outside and it seems that Blizzard might have reached out to FPS veteran Treyarch (behind some of the Call of Duty titles) for some help. According to Overwatch’s game director Aaron Keller, Treyarch actually helped them with the game’s aim assist feature on controllers.

“We actually worked with some of the Treyarch guys to make sure our aim assist [on controllers] felt really good, they were really helpful.” For those unfamiliar, aim assist isn’t the same as auto aim which might be seen by some as a hack, but rather aim assist is where it helps console gamers maintain their crosshairs on the target.

Keller adds that this isn’t the first time they’ve asked around for help, nor is it the first time they’ve lent a helping hand either. “We collaborate with the Destiny team, when they were building Destiny they wanted to talk to some of the people at World of Warcraft to see how they made some of their content. And we’ve gone to Treyarch a number of times and talked to them, whether it’s about some of their guts of the engine features, or whether it’s about tuning changes. And they’ve come out and looked at some of our stuff, too.”

In the meantime Overwatch is due for a release on the 24th of May, 2016.
