walmart_payWhen Apple Pay was first launched, Walmart was one of the few big retailers in the country who flat out refused to use Apple’s service. Then last year we found out that Walmart actually had their own mobile payment service in the works called Walmart Pay and for those who shop frequently at the retailer, you’ll be pleased to learn that the feature is now being rolled out to iOS users.

According to reports, it seems that Walmart has recently updated it iOS app and with the update, it has also enabled Walmart Pay. The latest update will bump the app version up to version 6.8 and according to the changelog, the addition of Walmart Pay is one of the new features, along with adding paper receipts and making in-store returns easier.

For those unfamiliar with Walmart Pay, this does not require users to own an NFC-enabled device, meaning that older iPhones can take advantage of this. Instead what happens is that upon checking out, users will be shown a QR code that they will then scan with the Walmart app and will then receive an electronic receipt upon successful payment.

However this will require users to own a Walmart.com account and link their credit/debit card to the app, along with their Walmart Gift Card (if any). If you don’t then you’ll need to create one. Unfortunately not all Walmart stores have enabled the feature yet and it is unclear as to which ones do support it, so we guess you’ll just have to head on over to your local Walmart to try your luck. In the meantime the updated app can be download here.
