android distro mayLast month and last we checked, Android 6.0 Marshmallow’s distribution was sitting at 4.6%, but now according to the latest figures offered by Google on the Android Developer Dashboard, it looks like that number has since risen to 7.5%. Granted this is a pretty big leap but apparently it is still slow when compared to previous versions of Android, such as Lollipop.

That being said, Lollipop’s figures appear to remain relatively the same and has only dipped by 0.2% overall. As expected older builds of Android are falling much faster with Android 4.4 KitKat dropping from 33.4% to 32.5%. Android Jelly Bean has also fallen quite a bit by 1.2% overall, while Android Ice Cream Sandwich has dipped by 0.2%.

It also looks like Android Gingerbread has fallen rather sharply from 2.6% to 2.2%, while Android Froyo appears to be clinging on at 0.1%. Based on this, it looks like it probably won’t be too long until we see either platform disappear for good, although they are putting up quite a good fight over the past few years.

It will be interesting to see how well Android N does upon its release. The latest version of Android is still in its developer preview and given that Google and their OEM partners have improved in terms of pushing out updates, perhaps Android N will see much faster adoption compared to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
