R-rated films have been around for a while now, although safe to say that it’s really thanks to Marvel’s Deadpool movie that showed that despite the R-rating (which also means a limited audience), movies and shows can still go on to do pretty well and earn millions upon millions of dollars for studios.

Now if you’re a fan of the Batman comics, you might have heard that Warner Bros. will be throwing together an animated version of Batman: The Killing Joke which will be getting an R-rating as well, a rather unique rating for an animated movie, and for those wondering when the movie will be seeing a release, it will be released in the summer.

To be more specific, the upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke will be seeing a release on the 23rd of July where it will be available to be purchased as a digital copy. For those who might prefer a physical copy of the movie in the form of a deluxe Blu-ray edition, the physical copy will only be seeing a release come 2nd of August.

The movie will see Mark Hamill reprise his voice acting role as the Joker, with Batman voiced by Kevin Conroy. It is based on one of the more iconic and somewhat controversial Joker origin stories and if you haven’t seen the trailer, you can check it out in the video above.
