True to their word, EA has officially announced the next title in the Battlefield franchise, and now prepare to be confused. Dubbed Battlefield 1, this is the next title in the Battlefield lineup which has been pegged for a release come October 21, 2016, a couple of weeks ahead of the competition from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Now you might be thinking, isn’t Battlefield 1 technically Battlefield 1942 from back in 2002? You would be correct, but in this case we’re guessing the “1” in the name is in reference to World War 1, which is when Battlefield 1 will be placing place, so if you weren’t too thrilled by Infinite Warfare’s futuristic take, this will send you in the opposite direction.

According to the announcement, “With Battlefield 1 we set out to create some of the largest create, most dynamic battles in FPS history while continuing to tap into what fans love most about the franchise. One of the things that makes World War I such an amazing era is just how advanced it really was. Almost everything that you know about the conflicts of the next century, from the massive battles across land, air and sea, to the powerful and efficient weaponry, is there.”

While the game has been set for an October 21st release, EA has stated that there will be open betas that gamers can participate in, or alternatively you can check out EA Play events on the 12th of June in LA and London where there will be playable demos and footage of the game. The game will also be available across multiple platforms like the Xbox One, PS4, and the PC. In the meantime you can check out the game’s launch trailer in the video above, which right now seems to have garnered way more “likes” than Infinite Warfare.
