Civilization developer Firaxis has confirmed today that the next game in this franchise is going to be out later this year, it has finally confirmed the Civilization VI release date today. This latest addition to the franchise comes after Civilization V was released back in 2010. That game was a huge success when it came out over half a decade ago so naturally expectations from the successor are quite high.

Lead producer Dennis Shirk says that the game will be quite familiar to those who have played Civilization V because “Everything that Civilization players have loved in Civilization V, we’re bringing forward, in addition to putting on the new gameplay from Civilization VI,” comparing the feel of the new title to “a warm blanket.”

Firaxis hasn’t detailed all of the new features and gameplay elements that it has developed for the new Civilization game, but it does mention that cities will play a bigger role in the new title and that cities can now be expanded across multiple tiles which is why their placement is more important.

Civilization VI also features a new concept called Dynamic Diplomacy that puts players against historical figures which have a historical agenda associated with them, motivations of the AI characters in the game will change over time depending on how players interact with them.

Provided that there are no unforeseen delays, Civilization VI is going to be released for PC on October 21st.
