Samsung-galaxy-S7-Edge-17_900Are curved display smartphones the next big thing? If they are, it certainly doesn’t look like other OEMs are rushing to adopt it. So far it seems that only Samsung appears to be interested in pushing the technology, what with the Galaxy Edge series and all, but it looks like they could soon be joined by the likes of Huawei and Xiaomi.

According to a report out of China, it seems that both Huawei and Xiaomi could very well unveil curved display smartphones in the later part of the year, September to be exact, which is more or less when IFA 2016 will be taking place. Both companies are also said to be sourcing the displays from none other than Samsung, which we guess makes sense.

The reports are claiming that both Huawei and Xiaomi could adopt the “Edge” moniker in their naming scheme, with Huawei reportedly calling theirs the Huawei Mate Edge, while Xiaomi could opt for the Mi Edge or Mi Note Edge. The Huawei handset is rumored to be packing a Kirin 950 chipset under the hood, while Xiaomi’s offering will come with a Snapdragon 820.

It is unclear as to what the design of either handset will look like and whether or not we will just end up with Galaxy Edge lookalikes, something that we reckon Samsung probably won’t be too thrilled about (unless they have some kind of deal with the companies). Either way take it with a grain of salt, but hopefully we’ll have photos to back up the rumors in the coming weeks and months.
