htc-vive-hardware_18Virtual reality needs to be powered by something, and in the case of the Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard, it would be our phones. However in the case of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, they are powered by computers. Now if you’d rather have your VR rig be more mobile, you will be pleased to learn that MSI might have a laptop for you.

The company has recently announced that they will be the first to the market with a laptop that has been certified as Vive-ready. This means that the specs of the laptop have been confirmed to be compatible with the HTC Vive, so you can just pop on the headset, plug it in and you should have no problems using it.

According to MSI, “HTC Vive is so far the most demanding VR device yet provides the most immersive VR experience. The hardware standard required to run HTC Vive smoothly is therefore much critical than VR devices. Working closely with HTC from the very first beginning, MSI gaming notebooks are now the only HTC Vive certified gaming laptops one can find in the market.”

Note that despite the fact that it says that it is Vive-ready, its specs appear to be also compatible with the Oculus Rift, so don’t let that Vive-ready certification throw you off. That being said, these laptops will not come cheap with some models priced above the $2,500 mark, but if you are interested then you can check out MSI’s range on their website.
