I’m pretty sure car manufacturers are now fed up with having to recall their cars because they were supplied with faulty airbag inflators by Takata. Toyota is one of the companies that have already recalled millions of cars and the company today announced that it’s recalling an additional 1.6 million vehicles in connection with Takata airbag inflators. Under its three brands, Toyota has now recalled nearly five million vehicles to replace the inflators.

The issue is with Takata’s airbag inflators which have been found to fail and instead of inflating the airbag during an accident, the inflator explodes and shoots shrapnel into the cabin.

The latest recall covers 1.6 million cars across Toyota, Lexus and Scion brands. Owners of affected cars will be notified via email and they will have to take their car to the dealership to get it fixed.

Depending on the model, either the inflator has to be replaced or the entire airbag assembly, whatever needs to be done is done at no cost to the owner.

Vehicles affected by this latest recall include the 2008-2011 Scion xB, 2006-2011 Lexus IS, 2007-2011 Lexus ES and the 2010-2011 Lexus GX. Also included is the 2009-2011 Toyota Corolla and Matrix, 2010-2011 Toyota 4Runner, 2011 Toyota Sienna and the 2006-2011 Toyota Yaris.

A select number of cars from each of the aforementioned model years are included in the recall, those who want to see if their vehicle has been recalled can go to Toyota’s website and check using their vehicle information number.
