apple_logoFrom what we can see, this year’s iPhone doesn’t look to be the biggest iPhone upgrade we’ve seen so far, or at least that’s the case compared to next year’s iPhone which according to the rumors, will be a pretty huge update and that one of the rumored features would be Apple turning to the use of OLED screens.

So the question is, how true are those rumors? The saying goes, when there’s smoke, there’s fire, and according to a recent report from Bloomberg, someone has been fanning the flames because one of the companies in Apple’s supply chain, Applied Materials, has recently ordered four times the equipment necessary to make OLED screens.

Given that Android OEMs have been using the technology, and that Samsung is probably the biggest Android maker, it doesn’t make sense for it to spike, unless Apple (who has sold millions upon millions with every generation released) enters the fray. According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, “Some tooling or machinery orders now set up suppliers for the fall of 2017. It sets up the iPhone in the fall of 2017 to be more of an impactful upgrade than the fall of this year.”

In addition to the 2017 iPhone using OLED screens, there are also rumors that it will feature an edgeless display design and the removal of the home button (finally), and that it will be encased in glass. Of course these are just rumors and speculation, but if you’re not looking to make annual upgrades, it’s starting to sound like next year’s iPhone might be worth waiting for.
