overwatchLast Friday, Blizzard had an open beta for their upcoming shooter Overwatch. The beta proved to be a huge success, so much so that Blizzard decided to extend it for an extra day. Turns out that the open beta was very well-received by players and it was a good decision by Blizzard to extend it because it has since gone on to be Blizzard’s biggest open beta ever.

According to Blizzard reps, it seems that more than 9.7 million players took part in the open beta over the weekend. “The Overwatch Open Beta ended earlier this week on May 10, and we’re thrilled to share that more than 9.7 million heroes played the game during the Open Beta across PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, making itBlizzard’s biggest open beta ever.”

In addition with all those players playing and clocking in those hours, it seems that they have managed torack up more than 81 million hours in game time. “All told, Open Beta participants teamed up to play more than 4.9 billion minutes (over 81 million hours) across more than 37 million matches of intense competitive action and all-out fun.”

Overwatch is set for a release on the 24th of May and if you missed out on the open beta, we guess that’s just too bad, but if you’ve already pre-ordered the game we guess you won’t have to wait much longer to get your hands on it.
