samsung-logoIt is no secret that when it comes to Android smartphones, Samsung is probably one of the better well-known brands. The company’s portfolio also appeals to customers across various demographics, ranging from those who are shopping for a cheap phone, to those who want nothing but the best.

This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Samsung is currently the leader when it comes to the global smartphone market. In fact Samsung has been leading the way for a while, and if you were wondering if Apple could be catching up, it doesn’t look like it. According to the numbers, Samsung now commands 23.2% of the global smartphone market, while Apple only owns 14.8% of the pie.

In fact both Samsung and Apple saw their market share drop, with Samsung dropping from 24.1% to 23.2% which isn’t too bad, versus Apple’s 17.9% to 14.8%, thus widening the gap. With Apple reporting a first in decline of iPhone sales, we suppose this was bound to happen. This has allowed other OEMs from China such as Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi to play catchup.

Huawei leaping from 5.4% to 8.3% while Oppo saw an increase of more than double from 2% to 4.6%. Xiaomi on the other hand saw a tiny dip from 4.4% to 4.3%.
