There are certain things that you must never do and texting while driving is one of them. Not only is it illegal to text and drive, this has been the cause of countless car accidents across the globe leading to the injury or death of countless innocent people. Sprint has unveiled a new sculpture in downtime Miami which showcases the dangers of texting while driving.
This piece of art is located at 1200 Brickell Avenue and is called “The Last Emoji.” It’s made out of a crashed car taken from the junk heap. The idea here is to show people how potentially dangerous texting while driving can be.
By placing a sculpture which has such a powerful and significant message, and uses the new language of mobile such as emoji, Sprint wants to remind the community that when people use their phones while driving not only do they risk their own lives but also that of the people they share the road with. No text is that important, it says.
There’s a reason why this sculpture has been set up in Miami. Florida is one of the only states where texting while driving isn’t listed as a primary offense, so this is a way to reach Miami commuters and raise awareness.
Sprint has created a free app for its users called Drive First, it automatically locks the phone when the car reaches 10mph. The app will send calls to voicemail and silence email and text alerts, it also sends replies to anyone trying to contract the driver informing them that the person is driving safely on the road.
