Microsoft confirmed in February last year that it had acquired the popular calendar application Sunrise. It kept the calendar around as an independent application after acquiring it for a few months and even supported it for some time but now it’s going to hammer in the final nail in Sunrise’s coffin. It has been confirmed today that the Sunrise calendar will sunset in August this year.

The team working on Sunrise writes in the blog post that it’s not able to support and update Sunrise anymore, that means no bug fixes and no new features, “for us, that’s the definition of a lousy app and it’s not a user experience we want to leave you with.”

For this reason, it has been decided to remove the Sunrise app from app stores in the next few days. The app is going to be officially shut down on August 31st this year after which will stop working completely.

It has already been reported that the Sunrise team has been working hard on Outlook for iOS and Android, it’s working side-by-side with the Outlook team to improve an app that’s used by a massive user base, so it’s going to focus all of its energies on Outlook from now on.
