There are many books which are considered to be “classics” and “must reads”, and it’s probably safe to say that Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince is one of them. As you might have heard, the book was adapted into a movie but unfortunately Paramount decided to drop the show from its release schedule, although it was not stated why.

The good news is that last we heard, Netflix was planning on picking up the show which means that you would eventually be able to start streaming it, and in even better news we now have a date for its release. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, it has been revealed that The Little Prince will be officially debuting on Netflix come 5th of August.

It should be noted that the movie isn’t 100% the same as the book, but rather it seems to combine the actual story of The Little Prince within another story, and uses both CG and stop-motion style animations to get the job done. According to the movie’s director Mark Osborne, “I really wanted to find a way to create a cinematic emotional experience that was equivalent to the emotional experience that someone can have reading the book.”

He adds, “I really saw the movie as an opportunity to pay tribute to the power of the book. Not just adapt the book word for word, but a chance to adapt what the book means to people, and how it affects their lives.” In the meantime you can check out the Netflix trailer for the movie above.
