There’s no shortage of mobile payment services and to compete against the likes of Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay, one of the biggest retailers in the country announced plans for its own mobile payments service last year. That service, called Walmart Pay, has been rolled out state-wide in Texas and Arkansas. The full launch means that Walmart Pay will be supported at nearly 600 stores across both neighboring states.

Walmart announced plans for a payment service of its own late last year. It has since been testing this service in a number of states including Missouri and Oklahoma. A full nation-wide roll out of the service is expected to take place later this year.

As you can imagine, Walmart Pay can be used to pay in Walmart stores. It works with iOS and Android, has support for major bank cards as well as gift cards from the retailer itself. Walmart Pay is integrated inside the existing Walmart app so users don’t have to download a separate app for it.

Using Walmart Pay at checkout is quite simple. Just open the app, select Walmart Pay and scan the QR code on the register’s screen using the device’s camera. That’s it. Customers will get an electronic receipt in the app as a proof of purchase. Customers don’t need to tap their phones on any readers or special terminals, it’s just as simple as scanning a QR code using the camera.
