whatsapp goldDo celebrities have access to different apps or services than we do? Before Facebook Live was made public, this was a feature only available to people that Facebook had deemed to be celebrities or people who are famous, which is why it probably wouldn’t surprise us that some might believe this latest scam.

According to reports, it seems that a new scam has been making its rounds and is calling itself WhatsApp Gold. This is a message that users have reported to have been receiving which you can see in the screenshot above. It shows the WhatsApp icon except that it has been redesigned with a black and gold finish.

It reads, “Hey Finally Secret WhatsApp golden version has been leaked. This version is used only by big celebrities. Now we can use it too.” It then provides a link to a website in which users can then download this alleged celebrity-only version of WhatsApp. Now obviously without us having to tell you, it is clear that this is a scam.

The website is believed to contain malicious software that will presumably install itself on your phone or computer where it might try to steal personal information. If you do receive such a message, the best thing to do is block the number and delete the message, but we didn’t have to tell you that, did we?
