traffickcamIt seems that despite our modern society and advancements, there are still some age old practices that some people in the world can’t give up, and that is human trafficking. It is an unfortunate practice and for the most part it really does feel like a game of cat and mouse between law enforcement agencies and the human traffickers.

That being said, the good news is that you can now lend a helping hand and it will be as easy as snapping four photos on your phone. Recently an app called “TraffickCam” has been highlighted as a way for the regular person to help fight against human trafficking. All it involves is the user downloading the app and whenever they visit a hotel room, they just need to snap four different photos and provide the hotel’s name and location.

The reason for this? Basically these photos are being uploaded into a national database where authorities can use it to cross-reference with images of victims of human trafficking, whereby the ability to identify hotel rooms that are used, authorities can better track the movements of their suspects, or in some cases work swiftly to rescue victims as well.

As there are many hotels, building up a huge database is no doubt useful. So far there are 1.5 million images that have already been uploaded and if you’d like to lend a helping hand, the app is available on iOS, Android, and even on the web.
