Are you in the market for a new Android device? Perhaps you might want to look at what BlackBerry’s offering. The company has announced today that its first Android-powered smartphone is now available for $100 less than its usual retail price, that’s because this is a promotion BlackBerry’s running for Father’s Day because apparently the only people left who would still consider owning a BlackBerry are from the generation of our fathers.

The Priv is BlackBerry’s first Android device. BlackBerry had expected that the handset would help it regain some of its lost market share because it was running the most widely used mobile platform in the world.

However, it didn’t quite turn out as BlackBerry would have hoped. Recent reports have suggested that the Priv isn’t performing as well as BlackBerry would have wanted. The return rate at AT&T is apparently very high and T-Mobile has already suspended online sales of the handset.

Nevertheless, BlackBerry soldiers on. Cutting the price is a good way to entice people to purchase its handset even though there are newer options on the market that provide better specs at a lower price.

The $100 discount promotion runs until June 20th. During this time, customers can purchase the BlackBerry Priv for $549 upfront from the company’s online store in the United States. No installments or contracts here, if you want to take advantage of this offer you will have to pay for it upfront.
