destiny legacy consolesWhen Destiny’s next expansion “Rise of Iron” was announced, it was also revealed that the game would not be available on older consoles like the Xbox 360 or PS3. While it wasn’t surprising, Bungie still came forward with an explanation stating that the majority of their gamers were already on the current-gen consoles.

However it seems that the story won’t be ending there. Come this August, Bungie has announced that they will be moving further away from legacy consoles in a more proactive manner, as opposed to a passive approach where they simply just ignore older consoles for future game releases.

According to Bungie, “Up to this point, player progression between current and Legacy Consoles in the same family has been shared by each account. This summer, that experience will fork onto two separate paths that will no longer share progression.” This essentially means that gamers on older consoles will sort of be playing a separate game compared to those who have newer consoles.

This won’t just affect the upcoming Rise of Iron game, but will impact the previously released The Taken King, where gamers on the Xbox 360 or PS3 won’t be able to or have limited access to features like purchasing silver, access new Eververse Item purchases, some Destiny Companion features, future updates and content releases, events, and more. More details about this can be found on Bungie’s support page.
