Late last year, Facebook launched a new app called Notify. For those who are unfamiliar, the app will basically notify you of events and happenings that it thinks you might be interested in. For example it could tell you the weather every morning, or when new movie trailers are out, or when your favorite sports team is about to start playing.Unfortunately it seems that the app is now being shut down although it is unclear why. Perhaps users weren’t a fan of being spammed by notifications all day long, but either way it looks like the app will no longer be supported. However its feature is expected to live on and will be integrated into other Facebook apps.
In a statement released to TechCrunch, Facebook said, “Starting on Wednesday, we will begin integrating Notify functionality into other Facebook products, like Messenger, and will be removing Notify from the App Store. Since launching Notify, we’ve learned a lot about how to make notifications as timely and relevant as possible and we heard from people using the app that Notify helped them stay informed about things they cared about throughout the day.”
While no official numbers were released, it was estimated that the app only saw around 63,000 downloads, which is admittedly rather low. In any case will any of you guys miss it? Or did you even download it in the first place?
