netflix-expansion

Netflix has been around for a few years but it truly went global earlier this year. At CES 2016, Netflix announced that it was immediately expanding to almost every country on the planet, and India happens to be one of them. As an emerging market, it’s very lucrative for tech companies and online services, and Netflix knows this, which is why it’s now producing its first original series for India.

The company’s first original series for India is based on the best-selling novel Sacred Games by author Vikram Chandra. It will be shot on location in India. This Hindi-English series is going to be produced in partnership with Phantom Films, which is one of the leading production houses in the country.

Netflix does point out that even though this is the first original series that it’s producing for India, the show will be available to Netflix subscribers globally once it’s released.

Sacred Games is set in Mumbai, India and it dives deep into the city’s intricate web of organized crime, politics, corruption, and espionage. The stories are rich and powerful and interweave the lives of the privileged, the famous, the wretched and the bloodthirsty.

All episodes of this new original series will be released at once in true Netflix fashion. Netflix is yet to confirm when the series based on Sacred Games is going to be released.
