It is unfortunate that we live in a world where there are some men who think that they have the right to attack women who reject their unwanted advances. Such is the case of 41-year old Ekaterina Romanovskaya, who 16 years ago was attacked in broad daylight and stabbed multiple times after she rejected a stranger’s advances.
No doubt this is tragic, but instead of wallowing self-pity and fear, Roma, who also goes by “Katya”, decided to set out to do something about it which has since resulted in a wearable device called Nimb. As you can see in the video, Nimb looks like a regular ring albeit a chunky one. However it is also disguised as a panic button.
According to Katya, “Nimb as a movement towards safer environments, where people combine efforts to help someone in trouble, whether they are authorized officials, close ones, sympathetic neighbors or just passersby. If technology allows you to operate a fighter jet without getting off your couch, then we have to use technology to save lives.”
Operating Nimb is simple as pressing the button underneath it with your thumb. From there it will send an alert to law enforcement, your friends, and/or your family members, or even people nearby. It will give them your location and lets them know that you are in trouble, which hopefully will allow them to come in time to drive away your attacker.
However it can be used in more ways than that. It can be used by those who take part in extreme sports where Nimb can be used to send a signal for help if you are injured or get lost. It can be used by those who have health conditions, and so on. It is a noble effort and a stylish one at that. Interested users can hit up its Kickstarter page to pledge their support.
