overwatch-mei-screenshot-001If you’re the type of player who cares about rankings and being the best of the best, then Overwatch’s Competitive Play feature is one that you were probably looking forward to. The feature was not launched in Overwatch at the start, but Blizzard did promise a release in a future update.

Last we checked, the feature made its way back into the PTR and the good news is that if you are a PC player, Overwatch’s Competitive Play should be available for you today in the game’s latest patch. Unfortunately for console gamers, you can expect the Competitive Play patch to be released later in the coming weeks.

According to a Blizzard community manager who posted on the Overwatch forums, “We know this isn’t an ideal way to deliver new content, so we’re going to continue to refine our patching processes over the next few months in an effort to sync up our release dates across platforms as closely possible.”

They also note that the Battle.net client allows Blizzard to be more agile with their releases, but ultimately they are hoping to reach a point one day where patches can be released simultaneously across all platforms. It should be noted that the first season for Overwatch’s Competitive Play will run for 2 months due to its late start, but subsequent seasons will go for three months.
