Uber has linked up with Capital One, it’s Quicksilver brand, in particular, to launch a new loyalty program for users called Payment Rewards. It’s simple enough. Uber is going to give users a free ride if they pay for the rest. The equation goes like this: Pay for nine Uber rides with Capital One and Uber is going to give you one $15 ride for free.

Uber has said that this program is going to be rolled out in the United States first and will be rolled out in other markets soon. This isn’t limited to just Capital One. Uber will team up with other credit card companies for Payment Rewards as well.

This program is great for credit card companies too. Their market is very competitive and they regularly use offers and incentives to get people to sign up for their products. Depending on how many card companies Uber decides to work with, the free 10th ride might become a compelling incentive for users to pay by one particular card for their Uber rides.

Granted that one free ride worth $15 isn’t going to get users far but it’s just like one of those cashback or reward points promotions that companies offer, giving free stuff is a proven method of getting people to spend more out of pocket, Uber and Capital One want just that.
