xiaomi-mi-band-2

After weeks of rumors and leaks, Xiaomi today announced the Mi Band 2 officially. It’s quite an improvement over the original Mi Band which was just a barebones fitness tracker. The new wearable device from Xiaomi is capable of much more than its predecessor, so it’s worthy of your consideration if you’re in the market for a new fitness tracker.

The biggest change is the most obvious one. Unlike its predecessor, the Mi Band 2 has a 0.42 inch OLED display which shows important information such as the heart rate, steps, as well as the time.

Xiaomi points out that the pedometer algorithm has been upgraded to provide for more accurate heart rate tracking, as well as to collect more accurate sleep and fitness data. It’s water resistant so the Mi Band 2 is the swimmer’s ally as well.

Aside from the 0.42 inch OLED display with scratch-resistant glass and anti-fingerprint coating, it also has a photoplethysmography (PPG) / heart rate sensor, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, as well as a 70mAh battery that promises up to 20 days of standby time.

The Mi Band 2 is going to be offered in a variety of colors for 149 yuan, that’s just over $20. It can be ordered through the company’s website in China. Xiaomi is yet to reveal when this product will arrive in other markets across the globe.
