Over the past couple of years, the smartphone industry has moved towards smartphones with large displays. There was a time when 3.5-4 inch displays were considered enough, and there are still quite a lot of people who prefer smaller smartphones, and that’s why some believe that the market for smaller smartphones will see growth. Apple’s already catering to it, and now rumor has it that Xiaomi is going down the same road.

Most smartphones manufacturers are sticking with 5 inch as the base display size for their smartphones, though it’s quite common to find handsets that stretch it even further. It goes without saying that nothing is better than a large display for watching content and playing games, but large smartphones do have their drawbacks.

For starters, they are big, bigger than what many would appreciate. There are countless people who still haven’t switched from their smartphones with 4 inch displays because they find the size to be just right for them, it may not be for others, but it most certainly is for them.

Apple is going after those customers with the iPhone SE, packing the latest in smartphone technology inside a smaller body. A leak from China suggests that Xiaomi is doing something similar.

Xiaomi’s mystery handset is said to have a 4.3 inch display with a Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood, 3GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage, a fingerprint sensor and a 13 megapixel rear camera all for $275.

It does look like a compelling option for people who don’t want a bigger smartphone, but whether or not it will arrive outside of China remains to be seen, that is if it’s released in the first place. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed this device yet.
