iPhone6s-Hand-SafariQuickAction-PR-PRINTIf the rumors are true, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 could come with an iris scanner. Iris scanners aren’t new, but with Samsung’s reach it is possible that the company could make it a more mainstream feature, kind of like what Apple did with fingerprint sensors when they introduced Touch ID in the iPhone.

That being said, could Samsung make it popular enough for Apple to want to adopt the technology? According to a report from DigiTimes, their sources have told them that Apple could indeed be getting on board with iris scanners, but don’t expect it anytime soon. Apparently only 2018’s iPhones are expected to pack the feature.

DigiTimes has had a pretty spotty record when it comes to iPhone rumors, so maybe we shouldn’t put so much stock into their claims at the moment. That being said, a recently leaked video of the iris scanner in action on the Galaxy Note 7 has shown how fast the technology is, although there are quite a few limitations that might make it not as useful as one might hope.

Either way we guess we’ll have to wait and see how the feature is received by the public when the Galaxy Note 7 is launched, but in the meantime what are you guys’ initial thoughts? Is iris scanning the next big biometric security feature we should be looking out for?
