Google has already released multiple developer previews of the next major iteration of Android. It confirmed during Google I/O 2016 that Android N, now known as Nougat, is going to be released over the summer. While the company is yet to confirm an official release date, rumor has it that Google is going to release Nougat next month.

Google recently released the fifth and final preview build of Android Nougat which means that the public release isn’t that far off. Even if the company hasn’t announced a date yet the release of the final preview means that Nougat is close to being declared fit for public use.

The rumor comes from reputable Twitter leakster @evleaks who has a good track record with these things. He claims that Google is going to release Android Nougat in August and that it’s going to include the latest security patch for the month of August. He also claims that Nougat will not be available for Nexus 5 owners.

Compatible Nexus handsets will certainly be the first devices to receive Android N, then it depends on upon OEMs like Samsung or LG to send it out for their handsets as quickly as possible, but if history has taught us anything it’s that it can take a long time for new Android release to arrive on non-Nexus handsets.
