iphone 6s cameraIn recent tests, Apple’s iPhone did not take the top spot, however as we’re sure many can agree on is that even though the iPhone might not necessarily have the best camera, it has always performed admirably and very consistently too. However it is obvious that this isn’t enough for the Cupertino company.

According to a report from French newspaper Dauphiné Libéré as shared by iPhon.fr (via MacRumors), it seems that Apple is hard at work at trying to get the best quality out of their cameras as possible, and one of those ways is by planning a launch of an imaging research lab that will be opened in Grenoble.

The research lab is expected to allow Apple to put together a team and house equipment related to sensor development, which will ultimately affect the images that the iPhone’s camera can capture. The report adds that Apple’s work on the sensors will be in collaboration with engineers from STMicroelectronics, one of Apple’s partners and supplier of components in the past.

Prior to this, Apple had boasted that they had around 800 engineers working on the iPhone’s camera alone, so if anything this new imaging research lab serves to further highlight Apple’s commitment to its optics.
